From 7th to 13th June in Bari the eleventh edition of the great event which focuses on South Italian native wine

The countdown to Radici del Sud 2016 has begun

A more careful and targeted evaluation of wines thanks to a new arrangement of the juries

On 13th June the exciting closing day open to the public

183 wineries from Apulia, Basilicata, Campania, Calabria and Sicily with more than 420 different labels will join Radici del Sud 2016 which will be held in Bari from 7th to 13th June. The so many subscriptions prove how the wineries trust this promotional marketing event which has given a crucial contribution  to the sector of wine from native grapes grown in Apulia and South Italy.

What’s new is the arrangement of the jury that will change significantly compared to the past one. Instead of being divided into different groups – the foreign and the national ones- all the journalists will taste the competing wines being part of the same jury. Instead the other jury will be made up of buyers and importers, both Italian and international, coming from 13 foreign countries (Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Great Britain, Holland, USA, Canada, Japan, Lithuania, India, Poland and Brazil).

In order to make the large selection of wines even wider, for the first time also  spumante obtained from native grapes -following the charmat or classic method- will be allowed to join the competition. Sparkling wines will be divided into white, rosé and red.

Radici del Sud implies a series of activities to be carried out on several days, some focusing on the BtoB meetings (8-10th June) between the buyers, the foreign experts and the wine producers, some others focusing on the South Italian wineries the foreign journalists will visit.

The 13th June will be devoted to all wine lovers. From 10 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. at the Una Hotel Regina of Bari about 150 wineries will welcome both Italian and foreign wine insiders. The visitors will be given the opportunity to know more about the different wines and talk directly to the producers getting information on the peculiar features of the labels. Moreover, there will also be some stands of small local producers of salami and cheese as well as the young chefs of Eccelsa Institute who will propose their dishes during the first part of the Exhibition.

At 7.30 p.m. there will be the closing conference “At the origins of sustainability” where lots of foreign and Italian guests will express their views. Among these the representatives  of  some wine Apulian associations like Assoenologi, Le Donne del Vino, Ais Puglia, Vinarius, Slow-wine and DeGusto Salento.

“The conference will give the opportunity to find agreements on sustainability among those involved in both eno-food and wine sectors, points out Nicola Campanile, patron of Radici del Sud.  Keeping the land healthy means guaranteeing it a long life, improving the quality and the identifying value of the grape as well as its habitat in order to save the uniqueness of our agriculture being one of the most appreciated cultural value in the world. This is the challenge we are going to pursue in the years to come”.

At the end of the conference they will proclaim and reward the winner wines of the eleventh edition of Radici del Sud. Then, starting from 8.30 p.m. guests will enjoy a big party where they will freely taste the 420 wines, as well as the proposals of some of the best Italian innkeepers and chefs.
