Announced the winners of the 5th edition.

Winners of the 5th edition of Radici Festival of Native Grapes have been announced.

Monopoli, June the 8th 2010. Held in the suggestive frame of R&C il Melograno, in a wonderful summer night, the 5th edition of Radici Festival of native grapes concluded yesterday with the award ceremony. Created and organized by Nicola Campanile and Enzo Scivetti, from Propapilla Association, supported by Assessorato alle Politiche Agricole e dall'Assessorato al Turismo della Regione Puglia, the event represented an opportunity for 101 wine producers to bring in the competition 178 labels of wine made from native and traditional grape varieties which are part of the richness of our territory. As every year, at the end of the evaluating session by two international juries, one composed of wine experts and one of wine lovers, at 6.30 p.m. the final congress took place, where the Presidents of the Juries, Carlo Macchi and Teodosio Buongiorno, summarized the juries’ comments and international wine writers expressed their impressions. The debate, during which the audience took part too, was conducted by Michele Peragine, a journalist from the television channel Rai 3.  The event, indeed, gathering the Apulian wine industry, represents a chance for exchanging ideas among experts and eno journalists coming from all over the world, especially from the countries particularly interested not just in wine, but in all the expressions of the Apulian features: Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Japan and USA. They all appreciated the way the vent was organized and the reliability of the competition. The debate, encouraged by Nicola Campanile, dealed with a well-known topic for wine producers: how to formulate joint strategic programmings to obtain more effective results when marketing our wines abroad. On the topic, Alessia Perrucci, President of the Association “Donne del Vino di Puglia” expressed her wishes and trust in the future. Very interesting have been the contributions local producers gave to the debate, underlining the need to define strategies shared by associations and institutions in order to maximize the results which can be obtained through an effective investment planning to promote and spread the knowledge of made in Puglia wines. Furthermore, it has been highlighted the need to make our region recognizable and to support the richness of our small wine productions from native grapes. Encouraging and enthusiastic were the views conveyed by Marina Cvetic Masciarelli, “adopted” by Abbruzzo and the Sicilian Santi Planeta, who shared their experiences with the audience about the search for quality and the sense of belonging to the local territory. Mrs. Anglani brought the greetings from the Councillor for Agricultural Policies of Regione Puglia, Dario Stefàno, who is currently busy in national negotiation talks. At the end of the congress the sons of Giovanni Soloperto, pioneer of Primitivo di Manduria Doc, received  a commemorative plaque.  The award ceremony and the opening of the tastings followed, in order to let people express their personal opinion and to satisfy the curiosity about the wines taking part in the competition. The wine tasting has been accompanied by a refined menu, wisely proposed by the resident chefs of Il Melograno.
