Let's start again!

Minervino Murge (Bari) – Following the successful editions of last years, “Radici 2008” the festival of the wines produced by native vines, arranged by ProPapilla Association in collaboration with Dolce Guida, will be back from 22nd to 23rd June, bringing new ideas and proposals to make the “made in Italy” still more interesting. The framework will be provided by the suggesting but a little-known land of Imperial Apulia and the event will be hosted by Masseria Barbera in Minervino Murge. The protagonists of the third edition will be sommeliers, wine lovers, oenogastronomic journalists from Italy and abroad forming one jury and representatives of ONAV Association. They will assess more than the 150 winner labels of Apulia and Basilicata wines. The real innovation this year will be the alternative iter referring to the 20 best winner labels.

A wine tasting of 100 farms and qualified wine producers that will compete with the best vines selected among the following categories: Primitivo, Negro Amaro, Nero di Troia, Aglianico del Vulture, Rosé wines from autochthon vines and sweet wines. The contest will be presented by Eustachio Aazzorla (vini-Bargiornale, La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno) and Roberto De Petro (President of the Association for agricultural and agri-food journalists of Apulia) will moderate over a debate about wine issues cured by those present, the oeno-gastronome and journalist Professor Vinvenzo Rizzi before the prize giving of the winner label after an open debate between a lovers jury made up of restaurateurs and wine shop owners and a technical one composed of journalists and wine experts. Michele Peragine (Rai 3 journalist) and Gianni Sportelli (Agricultural and forester politicy Department) will be the guarantors of the two juries. This year’s contest will give greater importance to the comparison between producers and tasters’ points of view and will end on Monday 23rd of June with the dinner for autochthon vines, the land of origin and the dishes combined with wines: the Aglianico and Lucania dish, the Primitivo and Gravine Tarantine dish, the Negroamaro and Salento dish, the Nero di Troia and Alta Murgia dish. There will be chefs from both Apulia and Basilicata.

Special guests and direct protagonists of the journalists jury will be the President Franco Ziliani (Corriere Vinicolo, De Vinis, member of the Italian Sommeliers Association, Focus wine, LaVINIum.com, Vinoalvino.org), Ian Dagata (Best enogastronomic journalist prize 2007), Luciano Pignataro (Guida Vini Buoni d'Italia, Il Mattino), Giampaolo Gravina (Guida I Vini dell'Espresso), Carlo Macchi (wine taster, Wine-Surf, Enotime), Vito Intini (Member of  O.N.A.V), Teodosio Buongiorno (Selector of Apulia wines for Gambero Rosso, Restaurateur - Già Sotto l’Arco),  Enzo Scivetti (speaker, wine taster).
The lovers jury will be composed of the President Giuseppe Colamonaco (Guida dell’Espresso, Repubblica), David Furer (Contributing Editor of Santé magazine US, author of "Which? Wine Guide"), Francesco Zompì (Slow-Food, Espresso), Luciano Lombardi (Restaurateur, wine expert) e Antonello Magistà (Restaurateur – Il Pashà, Conversano),  Franco Ricatti ( BaccoRestaurant – Bari), Giuseppe Misuriello ( Osteria Marconi Restaurant – Potenza), Paolo Costantini ( ONAVspeaker), Paolo Bargelloni (Wine expert).

“Radici 2008 is the nth attempt to put aside those marketing strategies based on supply & demand relation, rather supporting a rich, but yet fragmented autochthon heritage.”
The Italian viticulture is like a 500- piece jigsaw that is coloured and variegated, but too difficult to be  arranged. However, points out Nicola Campanile, editor and organizer of the contest, helped by Enzo Scivetti, Paolo Costantini and Pasquale Porcelli – devoting space and interest to the several autochthon varieties offered by our land proves to be an efficient solution against the wine globalization that represents a constant threat. And confirming the bravery of the contest, this year the five best wines for each grape variety will overcome Apulia borders to join the wine kermesse that will be held in Autumn in Milan at Palazzo Affari ai Giureconsulti, in collaboration with ONAV.
